Wow, That sign, Richmond Hill Baseball Diamonds, Geneseo, Illinois. Must have all been 60 ft ball diamonds for the little kids, Pee-Wee league. I played Babe Ruth and Connie Mac league baseball at Boelen Field in Geneseo, 90 foot bases, on the south-east corner of town, across from Farm & Fleet. Richmond Hill was in the south west corner of town.
Anyhow, hard to imagine a worse place to put the operator of that scraper than just inches away from the Detroit 6-71 diesel engine screaming away.
Scrapers were made at the Dubuque plant, I can't remember the year but remember driving past the plant with dozens of scrapers sitting on the lot with faded paint and tires covered with tarps to prevent tire o-zone & sunlight damage. Would have been late 1970's, early 1980's.

Seems like the end of the self propelled scrapers
coincided with JD buying out Cameco and just going with
tractor drawn scrapers. I wouldnt mind having a nice
elevating scraper for washout work.

I even dislike them in trucks! I used to like them as a kid, but then I found out how tiring that constant racket is. A CUMMINS may use a bit more fuel but won't leak gallons of oil a day and makes WAY less noise. I've only run maybe a dozen trucks with Detroits, but hundreds with all kinds of Cummins, lot of BIG V-8, medium size V-8, and more 855-6's than I could count.

(quoted from post at 00:22:35 01/01/22) Id hate to run a Detroit all day without a cab . I hate to run em with a cab

I re-powered several B-70 Euclid haul trucks (they are built like a scraper)several years ago from a 12V-71 to a 60 series. The drivers were skeptical when we did it, thought they would be underpowered. You should have seen the smiles on there faces after the first run, they said they could go the rest of their lives without hearing another two stroke.

Me too . The Detroit is a fun toy but not for long days . The 60 series are good a lot of power to if they arent set up for the chicken hauler fleet division
