Can I run my loader off of the rear remotes? 4020

Hello. I am new to the site and looking to learn from each of you. I recently purchased a 1967 (early) 4020 and it came with a 158 loader mounted but not hooked up to the hydraulics. I am in the process of connecting it to the hydraulics, but I am a novice. I have purchased the hydraulic
valve and lever, 11 GPM closed center valve with float. My question is do I need to plumb it to the hydraulic pressure line and filter cover for return, or can I simply run it from the rear remotes?

Thanks,
Bridger

You could run it off the remotes but it wouldnt be the best . The fittings right from John Deere are less than 100$ when I did mine . I didnt do the ported filter cover I put a tee in the rockshaft return line if I remember correctly

Welcome to YT
FEL control valve attached directly to tractor hyd system should operate better & have faster cycle time than when control valve is attached to rear breakaway couplers. I agree with SV that attaching FEL return line to rockshaft return line(2nd photo)is a good method over attaching to ported hyd filter cover. JD part #s for hyd fittings required are in photos or get fittings from a hyd fitting supply business.

Also, remove the acorn nut on the valve pressure relief adjustment and tighten it down snug, it will be set for around 1800PSI and you will be supplying 2250PSI,, with out doing this it will be letting oil whiz on through the valve,, heating it up..

Have been running my '67 4020 with loader off the rear remotes for probably 40 years with the only problem was a couple of times a hose became dis-connected from the remotes and I lost a lot of oil before I discovered the problem. Now have the levers on the remotes wired tight to avoid that problem. PS transmission.

2 ps 4020's here always wondered why the fuss with the plumbing, same as you plugged in the back and never had an issue.
