Working on a 3010 that the pto would slip and the traction clutch was worn out. Split the tractor and found that the clutch was shot and the flywheel was in bad shape. We had the flywheel machined and installed a new new dual stage clutch assembly. Checked and adjusted the clutch fingers with the JD tool and adjusted the pto clutch linkage on the lever according to the book. Reassembled the tractor and everything works except the pto will turn when not engaged at higher engine speed. At an idle the pto does not turn but once you throttle it up it will start spinning and you can slow it down and stop it by pulling back on the clutch lever. It does this with a mower hooked up as well but once it gets going you can't stop it no matter how hard you pull back on the brake. With the clutch disengaged the engagement assembly/throwout bearing is not touching the clutch fingers and the clutch disc is loose in the clutch assembly as you can move it back and forth. I split the tractor again and disassembled the clutch and verified that the disc and pressure plate are not warped. Is this just turning from centrifugal force and the pto brake is worn out and can't stop the drag? Thanks for any help

More than likely one of the PTO finger adjusting bolt lock nuts did not get set and the bolt backed out causing clutch to drag, This can happen pretty easy because wrench can bottom out on cover frame making it feel like nut is tight when is not. DW

Look up through the bottom cover and see what the clearance is on the fingers,, you can adjust them with out splitting it again,,

When assembling pto clutch disk in pressure plate assembly on engine flywheel prior to adjusting fingers was "long hub on pto clutch disk" facing up or out?

I set the clearance using the gauge tool. There is probably about an 1/8 in of clearance between the clutch disc and the pressure plate when the clutch is disengaged.

BTDT, LIGHTLY hold PTO fingers down when adjusting w/adj gauge not wedging screwdriver or chisel under fingers as I used to do. You can back lever adjustment off from inspection cover.

(quoted from post at 13:43:30 12/29/21) The long hub side was facing the engine

Long hub facing engine is incorrect according to 3000 series tech manual.
