175.00 Sediment bowl fail

After all the rave reviews I saw regarding the reproduced Marvel Schebler 1/2 turn two cylinder fuel valve I broke down and bought one.
I had just spent over two years and a ridiculous amount of money doing a major mechanical restoration on my '46 Styled D and figured what the heck, might as well spend the money and get what was supposed to be the best oe style one available.
Well its been less than a year in use, and my crankcase is repeatedly full of fuel, just like it was with the 25.00 tisco cheapy. The supplier said they would repair or replace one with any defects in its lifetime, which I'm sure he would, I've purchased a number of high dollar quality parts from him. Honestly, I kinda hate to admit that the only two cylinder I don't have the fuel in the crankcase problem with, has a 5.00 ball valve installed inline, I was eventually going to replace it with the expensive one like I installed on the D, but not anymore.
With the design of the two cylinder fuel system, tank over the carb, over the engine, it seems to me now that whatever you can get to work for you is good, sometimes correct just doesn't cut it. I'm going to leave the leaky sediment bowl right where it's at, at least it looks good, and install another 5.00 ball valve on the D. I haven't seen any complaints about this expensive part leaking online, I just wanted to throw this out there for an FYI, Regards and Happy Holidays...Tom

Hopefully it's just a fluke. I got one laying on the shelf as I work through the restoration on a model g. Definitely a nice looking piece though.

Sorry to hear that, same issue on both of my tractors. The sediment bowl shut off will keep the tractor from running but if they sit for a long time , like over the winter then the crankcase get full of gas. I put in a line line ball valve on both, cheap easy fix since I was afraid of breaking off the old bowls at the fitting with the tank. I also finally got smart and drain the tanks when I put the tractors away for the winter, best of luck

Guys, get a 5 oz. tube of a product called EZ Turn. It's an aviation product designed for the barrel-type valves. It's about $20. Here's a blurb about it. EZ Turn Lubricant is a specialty lubricant, sealant used for fuel and oil line valves. It is especially effective where high octane fuels and aromatics are present. Meets Mil-Spec Rating of MS-G-6032.

EZ Turn is also extremely effective as a gasket paste and anti-seize agent. EZ Turn is an anti-gum compound and will not crack or dry out.

You just put a THIN coat on the barrel of the valve. It's a thick grease that's impervious to gasoline.

Warning: This tube will last you approximately 400 years in tractor collection maintenance. Yes, that's how little you use per valve. I've had my tube about 10 years, and have never squeezed the bottom of the tube. I take off the cap and use what oozes up.

We simply leave the drain cocks on the carb bowls open. The leakage is very little, and it never has the chance to get to the cylinders/crankcase. We also try to leave the tanks as close to empty as possible.

Why they would reproduce that style of valve is beyond me ? Unless they redesigned it in the process ? Those originally never sealed off good. I replace everyone of those I come across with the newer type that has a positive seat where you screw the handle in and it stops against it.
