Scope of work on JD 2755

Been looking for a 4wd 30+hp tractor of decent repute at a tolerable price. Tricky to find. Found a John Deere 2755 with a leaky rear bearing and smoke when starting. I expect at least needing to do the rings. I have wrenched a bunch of cars but not these beasts. Hours around 11k. What am I looking at?

(I may want to steer clear of this Deere)

JD engines of that era have pistons/liners. With 11K hrs showing you should consider R&R of pistons/liners/brgs. If you don't want to R&R liners at this time I advise to check antifreeze condition & PH. Poor condition of antifreeze can create electrolysis which can eat hole in liner causing coolant to enter engine crankcase. Check operation of hyd's when hyd oil is at operating temp. To repair leaking rear axle seal the axle housing will require R&R. That would give you opportunity to check brake lining on at least one side.

Keep looking.. try to find a 5400,5405,5410 or 5415 4X4 no Reverser reversers are troublesome,,you will be much better off..
