John Deere H clutch rebuild

Rebuilt my clutch on a 41 H. Replaced springs, dogs, pins and toggles, clutch facing is ok. Did this because it was not snapping in place and could not take up any more, and appeared to be slipping a little. Still will not snap into place? What am I missing? It does seem to have a minor snap, but barely. Clutch handle requires little to no pressure to engage or disengage. I am really lost now. Thought this would be so simple since there are so few parts.

Try using some washers under the nuts. The bolts will stretch and the disks wear thinner also. Be sure you put the
same number under each nut.

The operating sleeve; its hole and pin that keeps it stationary from moving left and right, are they tight?? If loose, can affect the snap of the dogs and toggles in and out..

I got it, started all over. IT appears that the long bolt that goes through the dogs and through the clutch plate spun at 45 degrees and hung the god up so it would not move, but just enough to let the bolt through so that I could put the cotter key in. Stretched? Not sure but I replaced all 3. Now with new springs, dogs, toggles, bolts, clutch fork, it actually snaps into and out of engagement.

I replied to a similar problem on a B clutch last week. Be sure the thread are clean and the nuts spin freely. Engage the lever and pull the pulley out against the disc
and hold the pressure plate against the disc from the outside. Pull out on the stud while twisting it back and forth till you feel it seat on the dog then turn the nut
till it just makes contact with the pressure plate. Do this one at a time and just finger tight. Then tighten the nuts equally, one flat or castellation at a time till
you get the snap you want. Don't go too tight unless you plan on some hard pulling.
