SVcummins - 4020 hyd. issues resolved?

Hey SV!

I recall reading the forum months back, perhaps even last year, that you were having trouble with your 4020(I think?) lacking pressure or flow or possibly both.

I searched the forum history but ran out of patience so just wondering if you found the problem? LOL

Been three weeks trying to get it back together by the time Im
off work my hip hurts so bad I cant work on it very long

The ol trick hip is getting progressively worse all the time need
to do something with it just dont know what

I did end up finding the post where you mentioned dropping & catching a heavy load with the 3pt hitch & then hearing a pop so I know what led up to the failure. We don't have rockshafts on our tractors so I'm not familiar with the hyd. circuitry but would like to understand how that shock load managed to break that cover?

Only thing I know is dropped the hitch and right before it
bottomed out I raised the hitch again and pop then it wouldnt
raise at until the next day then it would raise the load again
hydraulics kept getting worse over time finally with some help
from thee fine fellows around here found the problem .
Decided I better order a new used cover just on the chance it
was cracked well it was . The load was about 37000 gross
and about 25 of that was on the hitch and trailer

When the hitch was dropping FAST from all that weight there was more return oil flow than the return circuit could handle so pressure built up and blew out the "weakest link", which in this case was that cover over an oil channel that the return oil flows through.

I would think the damage was done even before the quick stop of the hitch.

Thanks for the explanation. Makes sense.

SV,

IIRC you did the check valve modification to this tractor, correct?

If so, was it installed prior to the incident?

(quoted from post at 10:41:00 04/21/21) It didnt pop until I shoved the lever ahead . Lesson learned
turn the draft off
