unstyled B fan

Good evening everyone, It was such a beautiful day today that me and the family decided to take a few of our tractors out for a little ride. Upon returning home the fan on our newly restored unstyled B came loose and went into the radiator. It doesn't appear that there is any damage to the fan blade, the radiator will definitely need repair or replacement. My question is there a way to remount the fan back on or do I need a better replacement, and if so what should I use so this so it doesn't happen again. This tractor was my grandfathers first tractor that he purchased after returning from WWII and me and my son have meticulously restored it to original condition so I want to repair it correctly. Thanks for any help.

Is this the old style fan with a rubber "donut" in the fan hub?

If so they would fail and the fan would mess up the radiator.

At some point Mother Deere updated them to a different fan and a couple of "hubs" and friction discs and eliminated the rubber parts that could catastrophically fail and chew up the radiator.

Yours must have escaped having the update and I don't know what's still available to get it done.

I'll bet there's some GURUS that will come rearward and fill in the details.

There was a topic last week .....On John Deere Discussion Board..

Was yours the same style of FAN DRIVE as per this picture...a RUBBER DRIVE... ??

I got a kit off eBay that came from a tractor salvage yard that came with a friction disc fan set up. Think I paid around $150 for it. Someone one here says you can get a fanshaft from a late model b a take the parts of of it for cheaper.

Fans on unstyled B tractors are smaller than late styled ones with the friction clutch on the fan shaft. The new style fans can't be used on an unstyled B. The only fix I know is to have the rubber fan drive hub rebuilt. There are suppliers who do this.

Paul You can take off the fan and drill the the outer cover into the hub and tap it for 4 1/4 inch grade 8 bolts. Make sure they don't go past the splines. Lynn

You can retrofit a friction type fan setup onto an unstyled B. I did it with my '36. I believe I got an early styled fanshaft setup and took the parts I needed off of it and put on my tractor. It was an easy swap. Here is the SB on it...
