4020 Wheel Weights

I apologize if this is a stupid question but I have tried searching for an answer and have not been able to find one. I have even spoken to local farmers in my area and could not get a clear answer.

My 4020 has the rear wheels mounted all the way in / as narrow as they can be. The centers are about 1" or less away from touching the square axle housing. I am wanting to know if there is a wheel weight that can be mounted toward the inside that has a large enough hole in the center to clear the grease fitting and square shaped axle housing. My rear tires are 18.4-34 and have cast centers. They do not have fluid at this time. I do already have 2 (140 lb) wheel weights mounted to the outside of each wheel center and cannot add anymore on the outside because they will interfere with my bolt on dual hubs. I would like to add more weight and would prefer to do it with iron if possible and do not want to give up the dual hubs.

Thank you
Scott

My gas 4020 with 18.4 - 34 tires has weights inside and outside the cast iron centers.

It's not set up as narrow as yours, but I think the inner weights would clear the axle casing if they were shoved in that much. I will look tomorrow.

They won't be factory but call to some salvage yards. There are some real thick ones like 6-8 inches thick that will go on the inside. Had to get the wheel to move on a 4430 that the owner broke off the back
side of the wedge trying to get the wheels to move. And had these large weights and on 30 inch rows also. Then grease the axles before installation and/or put a 90 degree zerk or 90 with a hose to grease
later.

Is it possible to cut the center of the weights so theyll fit over
the dual hub ? Thats what Im thinking of doing since I have
to run spacers anyway

You might be ahead to shift the hub out on the rim to get more clearance from the axle housing. Your operator's manual will show your options.

Are you looking for two piece weights to put on the inside of your wheels? If you stay with one piece weights you will need to remove the wheels from the axles, mount the inside weights and them rehang the wheels back on the axles.

You might consider adding fluid weight inside the tires rather than cast iron weights. With proper care after tire punctures rim rust can be prevented for decades. The reduced cost of fluid weight will more than pay for new rims if they are needed in the future.

Thank you - I would appreciate the feedback

Thank you for the suggestion - But, if I shifted the centers out then the outer wheel weights would hit the dual hubs - The dual hubs would have to be removed (Or partially slid off the end of the axle).

You do have a point about the reduced cost of fluid vs iron weights being enough to pay for a set of rims at some point. I had not though about that! I would still rather explore the possibility of iron weights on the inside of the wheel for now though. If I end up having to go with fluid ballast I will. I was just hoping to there is a way to use iron.

I know that I have seen (in person) a lot of weight hanging on the inside before - If I had to guess I think it was on a really nicely done 6030 at a show. And, if memory serves me I think there were so many weights hanging in there that they had to be over the axle housing. Seems like they almost touched the fender mounts. My memory isn't perfect though - so that is what I wanted to as the questione here.

Not only does fluid cost more in ruined rims but they charge
about twice as much to repair one with fluid as far as doing
the repair right I have never ever ever seen a tire man so
much as wash a rim down after a repair they dont carry water

Yes, that is what I am looking for. 3 piece weights would be perfect! Is that BW-711 cast into them?

Thank you!

Yes, BW711 but it is not a JD part, from
another discussion on this forum, I found
out they were made by an aftermarket
company named BW Foundry. Here is another
pic mounted on a 4020 with 34 inch wheels.
The previous pic was a 4230 with 38 inch
wheels.

Also radial tires work lot better with full air volume and cast weights versus fluid which reduces tire flex. Much more better.
