Taking the head off, how does one deal with the crushed lead washer , just pick at them or is there a easy way deal with them ?

thanks

Don't worry about them until head is removed, Once head is off tap on sides / non threaded part of stud with a light hammer and the tuning fork
affect on stud will shake them right off. That simple.

After prying the heads off I can usually get them to spin off or cut them with a small knife.

Rephrase my question, how do I pop the head off it's stuck and the lead washer jammed in the threads at the head I don't think are helping . I have taken a hole saw that fit the stud and turned by hand to shave the lead, but that does not get the packed lead out of the stud head junction.
Problem is popping head loose.

Does the R have the hidden row of head bolt studs under pump cover like row crop diesels have? Are you sure
you have all the nuts retaining head off?

I don't know how this would work on a 2 cylinder, but if you can turn it over the compression can lift off the head from the block. We used to do this with stuck automobile heads before we got the dynamite.
