Late Model B, imput shaft removal.

I've got a B with a trashed input gear and outer bearings as well. It looks as if more bad news is in store for the imput shaft, ir only I can get it out. Fair warning, I have an I&T manual but I thought I'd throught I'd get this up for the early risers before I dig through manual in the morning

So, right now it appears to me that both parts of the input shaft have to come out through the inside of the case. How do I do that? I suspect that the answer is going to be so simple that it astounds me, but the day has been long and my mechanical processes are at low ebb.

You will have to remove the flywheel, take the cover off under it, remove the top gear. Take the trans cover off and remove the shift forks and top row of gears by tapping the input shaft
towards the flywheel side. There might be a snap ring that holds the bearing in on that shaft so you have to get it out and then the shaft will come out through that hole. Top shaft will
separate from the input shaft as it comes out. Be sure and put the heavy duty bearings in on the shafts when you do it.

Thanks for the reply! I have it all tore down except for the removing the shaft and gears. What was confusing me was that it appeared that the shaft bearing on the flywheel side was pressed into place from inside the transmission case. But when I dug out the manual today, it shows that the bearing is held in by a snap ring, if that is the case then I can see how the shaft comes out that side. But as I said, I had gotten a late start on it and I thought it was a good place to stop before I increased my problems.

I'm heading to the shop now and will get some better light on it, then clear away some of the crud and hopefully that will show me how to proceed. This tractor set for 10 years before I got it and I don't know how long it sat before the previous owner got it. So some things are a little rusty and cruddy from condensation.

Quick update. As I hoped, once the crud got cleared away, what I thought was the outside edge of the case was in fact, the oil retainer and than a snap ring behind that. Got them out and the shaft came out quite easily.

Bad news is, as I suspected, the input shaft is trashed along with the reduction gear, plus the bearing cover behind that and 4 bearings. Appears that the reduction gear and the bearing cover won't be too expensive, but that the initial prices I found for a used input shaft go up to a couple hundred bucks. So I think I'm going to look a little harder on that one.
