I have a late ser # 730 diesel with an aftermarket flywheel that I am trying to remove. the lettering cast in the flywheel REP P3570R PAT. PENDING & AMW. I think the the flywheel is on a taper of some sort with the mounting hub which someone welded to the crankshaft and welded a 1 1/4" bolt on the end of the shaft. My first objective is to get the flywheel off & then deal with the hub. Any body run into these flywheels before ? Thanks, Terry

Do you know who did the weld job or can you find out who did the weld job ?

Here is how they are supposed to come off... Put the big square nut back on a couple of threads, so that when the flywheel jumps off the tapered hub it doesn't hurt you. Make a couple identifying marks on the flywheel and crank so when (if) this pair goes back together, you get it on the right spline.

Then, take a big sledge, and give it a few whacks on the cast webs of the flywheel. Ususally the come off fairly easily.

If you have no luck, contact Allen Machine Works in Jonesboro, TN. They were the makers of these "taper-lock" flywheels. They are helpful.

Good luck... I'm not sure what you are going to have when it is time to take the sleeve off the crankshaft.
