A friend of mine was going to send his old 494 to the scrap yard yesterday and I had the great idea of trying to salvage it. After searching up and down for the seed hoppers I am starting to second guess my decision. Does anyone have tips or tricks for locating these or adapting a more available seed hopper to work on this machine? Any and all information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Place a want ad on this site or Craigslist. Should be plenty out there. I sold a good field ready 494A last spring for $450. I have a parts machine here but plan on cutting it down to build a 294A. Even found the small fertlizer hoppers of a 694A to make it look factory. Tom

Are those the seed hoppers that are round and about the bottom half is tapered? There is an old 4 row JD planter sitting in the
trees/weeds at my sister/BIL's farm that I could take a look at. Those things would be pretty expensive to ship????

I'm honestly not sure what they look like. I've never personally seen them. If what I have read is correct I think there might be a couple styles or differences in how they mount. Yeah I could imagine shipping may be pretty steep. I would be interested in them if they are for a 494 depending on how much of a pain and price of shipping something of that size to Michigan is.
