2950 Clutch Cylinder Sourcing

I am needing to replace the "lower" (larger) clutch cylinder on my 2950 SGB. Deere "offers" two cylinders, one is from A&I (I believe; I know it's A&[something]), it's just over $100. The other is from Deere--it's $300. In trying to source the cheaper cylinder, my dealer tells me there isn't a single one in stock in the entire country. After having communicated with their distributor multiple times, I'm told he can't have one in until March. I'd much prefer not to wait that long.

First, can anyone speak to the quality of these "non-Deere" cylinders? If I had to guess, the Deere version is just the A&I with green paint, but they could be sourced separately. If the quality of the A&I suffers, I'll likely go ahead and shell out the $$$ for the Deere. But, all else being equal, I'd rather save the money.

The part number is AL34744.

I've also wondered about sourcing a used one from a junk yard. How reliable were these cylinders, and would I be better off to just get a new one? If one off a junker would suffice, does anyone have a good source for that, as well?

Thank you all for your time.

Well, John Deere owns A&I and they offer the A&I parts as alternates in the parts catalogs. To me that says A&I parts are acceptable and may be the same identical part less the JD name on the tag.

Do a web search using the part number, several sources show up. The YT Store doesn't show it, but give them a call they may be able to get one.

Used parts may be good, or they may not, that is always a chance. A good salvage yard will test what they can and they try not to sell bad parts, at least any I have dealt with. It may help get tips on places to check near you if you give an idea of your general location.

Thanks for the advice. I'm in Southwest Virginia. There's a good salvage yard near me, Abingdon Equipment. They specialize in Fords, but do have a couple Deeres on their lot, including a 3140 SGB. It's pretty well stripped down, so I'm not hopeful, but I'm going to check with them this afternoon

My thoughts on a used one is 'you already have a used one that you don't want to re-use so how can you trust a used one with unknown history?' All States Ag Parts shows a new one for $132 and I have not had any problems with their products. I'm seeing a lot of suppliers coming up short on inventory recently.

You can get an aftermarket one on ebay for $95 shipped.

I recently installed one for a customer and it looked just fine/nicely made, of course "time will tell" as to longevity.

At one third dealer price I think it's worth a try.
