JD 530 PTO Rebuild

Last day of the year, Happy New Years to everyone!!
Looking to rebuild my PTO on my JD 530. It’s never been rebuilt. My questions are.... What items do I need to replace? Clutch plate part numbers AR1293R and
AR1294R? Springs? part number A4580R. What else do you recommend?

Thank you for your help.

Real good chance the inner oil seal is bad letting gear oil get into it. That requires removing the rockshaft housing. I always tear something apart and clean it up and inspect what I have and then order the parts.

AL-- Good article in Green Magazine on two-cylinder PTO repair.. Feb and Mar 2017 issues by Dan Brotzman.. Has good information..

You will need lots of money too. Did a 720 15+ years ago and clutch parts were pricey. If you are lucky the steel plates can be reused. Did the back off and seal replace too. Make sure you have a good way to lift the back if you take it off.

At this point if its not putting gear oil in the pto section Id be surprised. Like others said, rockshaft housing has to come off to change that. While you have that off it also give you the opportunity to remove the clutch drum and inspect it. Last one I did was a 70 and the part the forms the oil pump was half worn out.

Probably looking at $300 in just clutches, probably going to need the brake too. I believe the seal subs to two regular style lip seals.

I wouldnt order anything till its apart, cleaned and you inspect everything.

Are you rebuilding it just because or is something not working properly? Do you use it, on what? Have you tried adjusting it yet?

When I did the 620 a year ago I think I was at around $800 in parts total. All new discs, bearings, springs, gaskets, and seals. Got the discs and some of the gaskets from Steiner and the rest from JD. Like Mike M said do the inner seal which requires removing the rockshaft housing. Removing the rockshaft requires a cherry picker or some sort of lifting device. The hydraulic lines can be challenging to get loose from the rockshaft housing. I used penetrating oil, an air hammer, and prybar. Be careful when using the air hammer not to dent up the lines. Also getting the 2 screws loose from the operators platform is fun. Used the air hammer and a chisel bit because they are flat head screw driver heads.
