Good morning,
Im looking for bolt torque specs for a 47, D tractor. I have 3 versions of the IT manual but no bolt torque specs. Any help would be appreciated.

Info from service manual.
I run the Connecting Rod Bearings at .0015 > .002 clearance
Crankshaft THRUST is maintained by a CUP WASHER with shims between the CUP washer and the END OF THE CRANKSHAFT.
"NOT a JD factory design"......however as an owner.....:)
Fly wheel bolts are upgraded to GRADE 8 Bolts..

Thats great info. Thanks! Do you know what you do main bearings at?

The service manual.... Connecting Rod bearing running clearance ... .002 >.004 clearance
I run the connecting rod bearing clearance at .0015 > .002 (that's after, I have checked the Connecting Journals with a Micrometer and Plastigage)..
The service manual ...Main Bearings running clearance.... .002 > .006

Hi Bob,
Do you know what you tighten the main bearing bolts too?

A few more torques I had in my book - head nuts-208ft lbs - rod nuts-100+cotter pin - main nuts 100+cotter pin - block 90 make sure all tight, cause block carries quiet a load. Flywheel 275 ft lbs..

So the cylinder block nuts to the crankcase are only 90 ft lbs?
They are huge 7/8 studs but perhaps thats for the weight of the tractor?

Ya, I think the block nuts torque should be more, your right?? On your D, what size socket fits nuts
on the block studs?? I don't think the studs are 7/8 inch??

Your correct the studs are 5/8" and the nuts use a 1 1/4" wrench.
I shouldn't go by my memory anymore!

Big nuts? I assume to spread out the load over a greater surface area?

Sorry bob you lost me somewhere. We were discussing what to tighten the cylinder stud nuts to, how many ft/lb with a torque wrench? Your info is great and appreciated

Good morning Tnbshr .
The Studs as well as the NUTS that attach the "Power cylinder BLOCK" to the Crankcase are "3/4" NC"...NOT 7/8 or 5/8.
The Studs as well as the NUTS that attach the HEAD to the block are "3/4" NC"...

The torque setting I used is NOT a JD supplied Specification, but rather an Engineering supplied recommended torque.

I considered the GRADE of the STUDS at GRADE 5 given the vintage of the equipment......possibly I'm incorrect on the Grade...????

200 FT lbs Torque has NOT created any concerns on the three styled "Ds" I own....
All the best in 2021.....
