Cost to turbo a 5020

Many in our area had M&W set ups on them.Wouldnt make as much power as a 6030 set up as the RaJay didnt make much boost but would add some power to that heavy tractor. The complete set up was about $450 installed new but that was 50 years ago.I have never had one for 5020 but many for 4020 and I usually sell them for $700 complete no pan.I would bet Tim S. could make one for you.

(quoted from post at 01:08:00 12/28/20) Anybody ever turbo a 5020 what would it cost can I just use manifolds and turbo from a 6030 ?

Aftercooler too? Or just a turbo?
I can send pics of my 6030.

Thanks larry a friend of mine has a 5020 and he thinks he wants to turbo it I think if he rebuilt it with a new John Deere engine kit with high compression pistons he’d be a lot happier poor ol gal is just plum wore out that was the big tractor on his farm for a lot of years I drug a five shank ripper across hills with that tractor so steep a mountain goat couldn’t climb that was 25 years ago and it had a lot of hours then . Been in love with the 5020 tractors ever since never even had a single front weight on that tractor had fluid in the inside duals

It would be easy to put a 6030 set up on it,,i would not add the intercooler,,they turn out to be more bother than they are worth..

Tim, I once an engine online, a 531 turbo with no intercooler. It had been in an industrial application, and had yellow paint- I'm guessing some sort of scraper unit. I always thought that engine would have been a good transplant for a 5020.

Neighbor turboed a 5020 in the 70's sometime. Went from 7 bottom JD plow to 8 bottom on land hitch Oliver plow and a gear higher. It was so impressive with that straight pipe. We could hear him at our farm 2 miles away when he plowed. He also joined to 15 foot AW JD disks together then with a JD circle hitch. The turbo kit was M & W and I believe it cost him $800 at the time.

We have a JD 770 with the 531 factory turbo. Always thought JD should have done that in 69’ and call it the 6020. Then the next tractor could have been the 6030 with the intercooler.

Deere 770 grader is done this way. Engine built at same period than 619 with Roosa JDM pump.

The exhaust manifold for the turbo head has more bolt holes than the na manifold. I discovered this after I bought a manifold and turbo for tractor pulling. I ended up making some pieces of steel with shallow threaded holes and tack welding on the head. It worked for 15 years. I've since put a 619 with the inline pump in it.
