3020 water pump hub problem

I just installed a new A&I water pump on our 1970 3020 diesel. Deere sells either this A&I or a remanufactured one, but no new Deere pumps for this application. This one was cheaper than having my old pump rebuilt by the dealership shop.

Anyway, I assembled everything, and realized the water pump hub protrudes out too far forward, so the pulley will not line up nice with the alternator or crankshaft pulley. I can likely put a pulley with more forward offset on the alternator, but the crankshaft pulley still will be out of alignment. I think I will have to take things apart and have the dealer press the water pump hub on further to correct this.

Take home lesson is this: I will check things over closer before final assembly in the future (I assumed a new part would be assembled correctly...)

Take care,
Lon

I rebuild a lot of water pumps here, I never buy reman pumps,I always measure the clearance between the pulley and the housing,,if I remove the pump I sight the belt to see if it is running straight,, if it's not I add or take away from the measurement,,and not to be critical,, you have used way too much silicone on those gaskets,, a thin film is all that is needed,, the residue squeezed to the inside will end up in the radiator..just saying.. And to press the hub on farther you will need to remove the rear cover and press against the end of the shaft so the seal is not damaged,,if any one on here does buy a reman pump it would be best to mock it up dry to prove the pulley alignment..

I dug into things a little deeper and found the alternator pulley is incorrect too, so that is getting replaced. I agree I had too much sealer on those parts. It's probably best it is coming apart so I can re-do that as well. Thank you for your input!
