I thought I'd share some pics of a nice example of an original paint, one family owned JD 40. The current owners Grandfather bought this new at the local Deere dealer with a #30 loader & a 2 bottom plow. The farm & equipment was passed onto his son, who recently passed away. The son's nephew now has the tractor. It still has it's original rear tires. I imagine the left headlight was raised for use with the loader. I had first choice of buying it if no-one in the family wanted it. Our families have been neighbors since 1908, so we've all been good friends through the years. I spent many hours on this 40 raking hay in the 80's. I would have loved to buy it but am glad it stayed in the family. It had been sitting in the shed since the early 90's so I was asked If I could get it running and change all the fluids. The current owner is going to paint it. I mentioned that it is a beautiful example of an original tractor & a little "elbow grease" would make it very nice. He wants to paint it. It's his tractor. I took these pics to save in my album. Thought I'd share them with all of you. Boy, the memories that came back when this tractor fired up for the first time the other day.

If it is indeed original paint it would be a shame to repaint it. You don't find any that nice in Ohio climate. Some polishing compound and wax would do wonders for it.
