Thought I'd put a quick plug on here to let you folks know I have a couple tractors listed on eBay...

If this is considered an advertisement? My apologies to the moderators...

1957 820 with 800 ci. engine
& a 1959 or 1960 435 Turbo Diesel.

Did someone add a turbo to the 435? They were never turbocharged from the factory. Just the stock blower used on the Detroit 2-strokes.

Had to be an addition. Detroit Diesel did not install a turbo on a 2-53. Only two valve cylinder heads well.
Without a Turbo, 46 PTO HP or so at 1850 crank rpm is about the best they will do. Although 2400rpm will take them close to 60HP.

Whoops... My bad... No turbo. I thought that's how they were called out. Apparently it's a blower run off the exhaust to evacuate the cylinders for full charge for next hit. 2 stroke GM 2-53. In my head that sounded turbo-esque... like jamming air with exhaust powered blower.

But anyway, no... not turbo... sort of blower but not for extra air but to exhaust.

All I know is the little thing screams... :)

My bad... The term I'd seen used was "supercharged" so more of a blower...

The blower on a jimmy/Detroit is not run off the exhaust, it is driven from the engine's gear train. Turbochargers are driven by the exhaust gases.

Detroit diesel Blower is mechanically direct driven from the timing gears .
