Does anyone have a copy of the wiring diagram to convert from 24 V to 12 Volt. I have alternator and new starter, and new 12 V fuel gauge. need to know what wires to reuse to make charge lite, and oil light to work as well as the lights. Used to have a copy, but darned if I can find it. Or would it be easier to get a gas wiring harness? Many Thanks

Connect blue and brown wires at starter both to the battery cable terminal on the new starter's solenoid.

Oil light will work without making any changes.

On the existing VR, the "ARM" terminal has two wires on it, the white wire goes to the old generator, the other wire will be pink or black, that is the wire from the "GEN" warning light, if using a Delco or similar alternator, connect that wire to the #1 or "excite" terminal on the alternator. There will be a 50 Ohm resistor at the generator light, remove it or light will be dim and/or the alternator may not excite. (Some early versions of the DEERE 24 Volt system had the resistor built into the "ignition" switch instead, can't remember, offhand if the early 4020's did.)

Connect blue and brown wires from harness that used to go to "A1" and "A2" on the generator to the alternator's output stud.

That's about it, except for changing the fuel gauge to a (-) ground version, if desired to make it accurate.

It looks as if wore out has your question answered.

IMHO attempting to utilize a spark ignition wiring diagram for tractor of same era would not be of much use because it will be for positive ground.

I replaced the starter with a heavy duty Denso and happened to be looking at it when I realized I didnt need all that junk and filled a bushel basket with wire and connectors. I got Murphy on them so it takes an extra wire and tossed out the ign switch with the rest of it. Put simple toggle on and one for lights. Use a button for start.
