Alright, here's a softball for you experts. See the photo attached it's a Wico XH 1042. Has a melted metal connector that comes from the hot pole. It bridges over to the assembly under the rotor, same place where the condenser is
connected. You can see the melted end of it in the photo. Is this "bridge" piece of flat metal a type of fuze? Need to get another as part of the tune up kit but don't think it normally comes in the tune up kits I've seen. I appreciate your
help and suggestions.

Looks like it connects to the kill wire on the side of the magneto. Might be a fuse ink. Did someone hook 6 or 12 volts to that wire?

There's no fuse there but the kill wire via that side stud needs to wire to the points to ground them out to kill the ignition.

I thought I would show a picture of the wire that melted through. How would you refer to this wire from the parts manual? Going to try to order on Monday. How it got melted I'm not sure. The tractor has no spark currently so was in the midst of replacing points and condenser and plugs. Saw this melted thru and thought maybe this was the issue. Tractor was running fine and then it wasn't. Since it is positive ground, it is possible that the cables might have been reversed once when swapping the battery out. I don't remember doing that but would that do it?

Looks like high current. Are you sure the wire attached to the external side terminal is wired to GROUND instead of the battery via a switch ???

If wired right a mag doesn't care nor is connected to any battery source so swapping battery posts or reversing polarity should make NO DIFFERENCE

Picture looks like part of the points assembly. If mags side terminal was wire to battery voltage you can burn things up

That is not the correct type of mg for that tractor. They originally came with a Type X Wico. The XH denotes a harvester or combine type. Some one must have changed the drive/impulse end to use it on this tractor. The last ones came with an XB distributor on them.

Thank you Gene, I never considered that it had the wrong mag on it. I bought it a couple years ago and it has run fine since. I'm going to need to delve into this. Electrical is not my strong suit but I suppose it's a good chance get better at it. Really appreciate all the comments and suggestions!

Thanks John T,
Likely other things going on. I need to dig into a wiring diagram and get guidance. As Gene said, if this Is the wrong mag, I need to look into that. The guy I bought it from had it partially converted over to a 12V alternator but didn't hook it in. So, some unfinished or incorrect set up to straighten out.
The odd thing was that it ran fine then it didn't . No spark at all, So, I thought it was something going on inside the mag. Saw the melted link and thought that might have been the issue.

I really appreciate your help!

That could have happened Mark. It has a partial 12V conversion on it with the alternator not hooked in. Wiring is screwy, so will need to try to start from scratch and decipher what's right and what's not.
I know Gene is in GA, wish one of you were in the New England! Could use some electrical mentoring!!!!

Gene,
I replaced the condenser and points. New plugs, wires and timed it. Started immediately and ran like a champ! I disconnected the wire on the side terminal of the mag. I think that the previous owner had began or did use that as a kill switch?? Anyhow, not needed. Glad the coil was good.
Used it in a pull on Sunday.
It has another issue in the transmission I need to sort out. It gets stuck in "two gears" at once sometimes. If I let it roll a little while shifting from one side to the other it gets fouled up. I have to pull the top off of the transmission and get all the forks back where they're supposed to be. It's a pain when it happens. Any suggestions for that?

Thanks again!!
