435 Steering-Lucky

So my 84-year old father managed to drive our 1959 435 head first into a deep, narrow ditch. Luckily he was ok, just shaken up. I was worried as both front wheels were turned to the extreme left and the steering wheel would just freewheel. After extricating from the ditch I found the left inner tie rod had passed over the front axle pivot and was stuck. Removed the tie rods and was able to get that undone. Pulled the cover off the steering box and the vertical steering shaft looks to have swung over so far the pins were not contacting the worm gear. Was able to push this back onto the worm gear and everything seems to be ok. I had figured that something was broken and I was in for a big parts bill, at least. Nothing like a 61-year old Deere for durability!
