Can someone tell me what the single hydraulic fitting is for, how to use it and how is it controlled? Thanks

I agree someone utilized the male coupler attached to rear of trans case to attach a return hose for hyd oil from an ind hyd control valve. I seriously doubt a ported filter cover was involved.

then I wonder what was the point of it?

Then another question is how would I use a single acting cylinder with the remotes pictured?

Also, some implements such as air planters or other machines that used a hydraulic motor routed the case drain from the hydraulic motor to that port because it had no back pressure like the return to the hydraulic system filter and front pump charging system.

I have an ARPS 730 3-point backhoe that requires that I use a “2nd” return. That is exactly the
way mine looks on my 4010.

Your tractor was hooked to hyd. reset plow at some time in it's life. Have the same fitting on the 4020 dad bought new with a 5 bottom Deere F345 reset plow. Tom

I get it...if the plow trips then there is some sort of dump valve and it has to dump somewhere.

How would I run a single action cylinder off of the pair of remotes?

Just plug your single hose into either of the two remotes. I usually use the outside one as when you push your dash lever forward your implement will raise. When lowering you just pull back on the lever and the weight of the implement will lower it. You can also change the lever so there is a float position when lowered. Tom
