lol I'm not having much luck with my 450 dozer. Blew the motor the other day and just bought a new one today. The question is. My old one has a glass fuel filter and the new one has 2 canister filter. Was wondering if the one with the 2 fuel filters is a newer engine?

I wouldn’t worry about it and without a serial number no way to tell anyway because you can get factory parts to change it to the square one I myself like the double filter better anyway

Dual round fuel filter on 4020 & 450 dozer are not near alike.

Dual filter on 450 with 2 large sealing rings per filter can be a PAIN sometimes to get to stop leaking fuel & can be installed incorrectly IE up side down.

I like the rectangular filter better than either style mentioned above!!!

Fuel filter styles can be changed so they are not a sure way to date an engine. The 450s had the dual filter set up into at least the 450B series, I believe, so your old engine may have had the upgrade to the glass filter at some point in its life. It is also possible the engine was already swapped once.

You should be able to swap the glass filter parts over to your "new" engine if you want.

Dual screw-on fuel filters similar to the type utilized on early model 4020's are not near as difficult to change without heaving a fuel leak as the dual fuel filter on JD utility tractors such as a 450.

Those cav filters are junk compared to the double John Deere
filters but they aren’t to bad if your careful

I agree with you, but the square ones are stanadyne, other makes used them: Allis Chalmers, Minneapolis Moline, Case, just to name a few....
Don't put Deere on a higher pedestal than they really are!

I was thinking the 1st JD rectangular fuel filters(AR50041) I ever saw had Roosa-master name on them not Stanadyne BUT that was a long time back in time.
