35'' Unstyled B Fuel Routing Questions

Hi,
I just bought my first two cylinder Deere, a 35' Unstyled B, s/n 9078 (eight bolt front end). It starts, runs, and idles well but has a older coat of paint slapped over pitted metal that I am looking forward to restoring. This is also my first gas tractor, the other being a Fiat/White 2-60 2wd diesel, so far I love the simplicity of the B.
Its my understanding from all my searching the outerwebs that all unstyled B's were all-fuel, please correct me if I am wrong.
My question is how exactly is this plumbed up? I have a parts and operation manual but there isn't any illustrations that show how it is connected together. I'm asking because the gasoline tank was plugged up and not used on this tractor, the three-way valve isn't present and it looks like the strainer was replaced with one that will shut off fuel to the carburetor. A piece of copper pipe with a plumbing ferrule was used as well. I have the tank off to reline, it was filled with paper wasp nests.
From the gasoline tank side, do I connect a A2956R elbow strainer then a AB227R pipe to the AD680R three-way petcock to a AB228R fuel pipe to the carb?
From the fuel tank side, do I connect a AA499R strainer to the above mentioned three-way petcock?
Sorry for all the questions, I can't seem to find a service manual for these unstyled B's.

Thanks,
Marc

If it is the same as my undtyled G it sounds like you are correct. small tank is connected to 3 way valve through fittings. Large tank is connected to 3 way valve through the sediment bowl. Those old 3 way valves don't always hold fuel too well, even the new ones. I run my G strictly on gas but since I don't run it much I put new fuel in small tank and start on that one, after it has run a bit I switch to big tank which may have older fuel in it. I use the shut off valve on the sediment bowl to turn off fuel to carb and let it run out of fuel. I also open drain on the bottom of the carb and leave it open as I saw one that had some water in it and froze and broke.

Welcome to the forum. Not going to type part numbers here, but I'll try to describe how it works. The elbow fuel strainer screws up into the bottom of the gasoline tank. (small tank). The sediment bowl screws up into the fuel tank. (main tank) The three way valve screws directly onto the back side of the sediment bowl opposite the quarter turn handle. Then, if you get the fuel lines, it should readily be apparent which one is which. One comes from the gasoline tank into the back of the valve, the other goes from the bottom of the valve to the carburetor. You have to be aware that there are two different three way valves and they look a lot alike. Get the right one. Hope that helps. Ron

Thank you for the help. Now i'm curious about the differences in the 3-way valves, is it the sediment bowl connection (threads) or routing?

Go to this site. At the top of the page click on "John Deere". It will bring up a list of JD models, click on "B". In it you will find three different valves. Look at them closely, pick the one that matches your tractor's serial number.

Thanks, I listed the 3-way valve part number in my original post based on the tractors serial number that I also included in the original post. My question was just proper routing since there does not seem to be a service manual for unstyled B's. Thanks again for the help.

IIRC, don't think there ever was one. All the info that a farmer would need back then was supposedly in the owner's manual and the parts manuals.

Take a look at the [b:654c4848f0]FUEL SYSTEM[/b:654c4848f0]</i> diagram below.

Based on the serial number of your tractor, the following four parts are required:

Key 1 [b:654c4848f0]AA 499 R[/b:654c4848f0] Fuel Filter

Key 12A [b:654c4848f0]AD 680 R[/b:654c4848f0] Three Way Fuel Cock

Key 16B [b:654c4848f0]AB 227 R[/b:654c4848f0] Gasoline Pipe

Key 17B [b:654c4848f0]AB 228 R[/b:654c4848f0] Fuel Pipe

Pure speculation on my part, but this is "[i:654c4848f0]plumbed up[/i:654c4848f0]" as follows:

Key 12A [b:654c4848f0]AD 680 R[/b:654c4848f0] Three Way Fuel Cock is connected to Key 1 [b:654c4848f0]AA 499 R[/b:654c4848f0] Fuel Filter

Key 12A [b:654c4848f0]AD 680 R[/b:654c4848f0] Three Way Fuel Cock is connected to Key 16B [b:654c4848f0]AB 227 R[/b:654c4848f0] Gasoline Pipe which is connected to the small gas tank

Key 12A [b:654c4848f0]AD 680 R[/b:654c4848f0] Three Way Fuel Cock is connected to Key 17B [b:654c4848f0]AB 228 R[/b:654c4848f0] Fuel Pipe which is connected to the carburetor.

Hope this helps.
