Hello-

I would like to ask some help with creating a flywheel wrench for A John Deere G. The photos are of the factory set of wrenches, which of course I don't have - I found the photos on the web. It seems to me, however, that a little creative heating and bending of 3/4 socket extensions would get me very much the same thing. What I don't have is a model.

Would someone with the wrenches be willing to send me pictures of them laid out on paper with the dimensions and distances marked? I think I could get close.

Thanks in advance!

Mark

I have 4 of the bottom one's and each one is a little different. The one that was my dad's works the best

The set we had at the first dealership I worked at, had two lower wrenches. The socket was indexed differently on the two. This way you could tighten the flywheel bolts a 12th of a turn at a time.

I have not used the factory wrenches in over 30 years. The right combination of a good impact u-joint and extensions will tighten the bolts easier.

I have had a number of the off-set wrenches. There are two different versions, with the only difference being in the off-set; one has about 1/2" more off-set than the other. I was told many years ago the wrench with the greater off-set was for the G tractor and the other one would not work on the G. Anyway, that's my story and I'm stickn to it. Myself, I have never used either one but my son overhauled my Dad's (now mine) D last winter and used the off-set factory wrench on the flywheel.

RustRed-
it's been a while since my original post, but I have been trying the 3/4" extension and universal joint trick that was suggested by others. (I have to drive to the tractor quite a ways, so this is a slow process.)

Anyway, it might be my lack of technique, but the universal joints have just not worked for me. If you would send me the dimensions I would sincerely appreciate it. I think the critical dimensions are:
1. From the bottom of the socket to the center of the horizontal piece after the first bend
2. Center to center from vertical to vertical
(hope this makes sense!)

I don't really have much to lose except a mangled extension, so this seems like a useful and interesting project.

I appreciate the generous offer of your time. Thank you.
