JD 8 speed PS in a JD 670A

What the PS does is it will creep and move when you put the speed selector in 1 gear and direction lever in forward or reverse with inching clutch petal down.

It pulls the engine rpm down if clutch petal is released.

I think problem is in C1 or C2 clutch pack.

What other things do I need to look for?

i dont know much about the scrappers, but, does it have that lower sump screen? not gonna lie, im to lazy to go through all the parts manuals and look, but that clean screen always seems to make my 500A hoe run a lot better with the PS haha

Lucky64 Its a Grader right?? The Direction lever does that give you 8F & 8R ?? Or 4R Gears ?? Im not familiar with graders how gear shifter works 2 levers ? I was looking at small Deere grader dont remember the size. But I thought it looked like 4020 P.S. transmission w/ Drop box on front of transmission w/Engine sitting in backward . Just wondering if front box gear box more gears ?? OK Getting back to the nuts & bolts . 1st thing to do get some 300psi gauges . Plug into C1 &C2 clutch pack see what psi you have & when you should have psi & not have psi. If youre able to get more gauges plug into shifter valve housing bolt to R.H. Side of REAR transmission case clean it off good.you should see (Razed) letters& numbers like B1 B2 B3 . It maybe a shift valve sticking. Im still trying rapping my head around how it shifts w/ more gears then farm tractor??

It only has 4 R gears 1-4 .
I ordered 2 more gauge test units. I had 2 of them. I will do the 4 gauge test.
I have OH a 15 speed PS unit but never worked on the 8 speed PS.

I am hoping that I can pull C1 & C2 if need be after pulling the drop box without having to pull the engine.

Trying to upload a photo, It tells me it's spam or does not like a word. No word used. What am I doing wrong?

Lucky 64 I went back reread your post. Will creep 1gear F&R gear ( oil ) cold ??? Hot ?? Pulls engine down ( Like under heavy load ?? Something working against its self ??) When you say that is thats in gear ,All gears ?? Neutral w/ clutch petal out ??(shift linkage) Maybe?? From my limited experience W/some 8sp P.S. theres some drag when cold . Have you ran this machine before this problem come to light ? Another words you know something different in shifting ?? Whats it like shifting other gears oil warmed up good ? Does it bog down going into 5th gear ? Some times people think theres problems P.S. but thats the nature of beast .( shifting hard In some gears) little creeping . They work better W/warm oil.

I bought the grader this way. I am waiting on trucker to haul it to my shop.

I don't know if it does it in all gears. The oil was not hot. All I know is that when you start grader and move peed selector from neutral to 1st gear and move direction control lever to forward or reverse with the clutch petal down the grader will move forward or backward and when clutch petal is released it pulls the engine down like both C1 and C2 are on.

I ordered 2 more gauges and hoses to do a 4 gauge test on the PS transmission after the grader is delivered.

Lucky64 Im trying to understand shifting.Walk me through this (speed selector) This is a gear shifter 8F &4R Right?? ( Direction control ) shuttle you can run same gear forward & reverse ?? Example 2nd F. & 2nd R. ,4F&4R Right ?? What about 5th F.& 5th R. Then do you have to shift to 4th R. Because theres no 5th R. Right?? Only 4 Reverse gears right?? Could that be where problems are ?? Never drove a Deere grader . Older cat P.S. 1 shifter move to what speed F. OR R. You want. Im going to stop & look at Deere grader there was one about 10 miles away& look a shifter setup. Let us know what you find out.

It only has N-1-8 on the speed selector on the right side. Their is a lever on the dash upper left that selects F-N-R. B3 receives oil directly from the direction selector valve. It does not come thru the shift valve Correct It only has 4 reverse gears 1-4. I don't know if the internal are more like a 4020 PS or a 4040 PS. The grader used a lot of part that were the same as the Ag tractor.

The main difference were no Park Paw (has parking brake) no PTO
I did get the two JD service manuals, operation/ testing and repair.

I am hoping that I can remove the drop case and inspect C1 & C2 without pulling the engine if test lead me that direction.
