have 820 that is seeping engine oil at rear of pony motor-- happened when turning over pony engine
Is there a gasket that needs replacing or is it an oring failure? parts book shows circular gasker cover and gasket
hoping you have experienced this problem-thanks

Most common cause of a leak like you described is the rear crankshaft seal. Leaks oil into the clutch area and oil flows out underneath the pony engine/transmission.

You normally have to remove the engine and transmission as an unit, separate the transmission from the engine, remove the clutch assembly, remove the flywheel and finally the rear crankshaft bearing housing and the seal. Lots of work to replace a shaft seal. Good winter time project in a warm workshop.

Have you raised the hood on the 820 and really had a good look at the pony. The oil you are seeing could be coming from somewhere else on the pony engine. I know of at least one area that commonly leaks on pony engines, at least take a good look before diving in too deep, not to diminish Blksmok's knowledge to be sure, just asking you to be open to other causes. Since you said "happened when turning over pony" I thought you need to take another look as there is a plug (screw) in the left end of each head that I have had come loose and leak or completely fall out and certainly will leak a lot when under pressure.
