The hydraulics on my 2940 have been acting up for a long time. I use it mainly for loader work, sometimes I use it in the field to load round bales,
sometime at the barn to unload, but I can only use it for about 1 hour at a time before the loader and steering start acting up, if you keep on using
it the loader and steering stop working completely. I'm thinking it's the main pump. any of you out there got in other sugestions Thanks in advance.By
the way the loader is plumbed fron the bottom.

Only good method to determine hyd problems on JD tractors such as your's with closed center hyd's is to perform ""good hyd diagnostic's"".

Over the yrs many hyd pumps have been replaced only to determine that the replaced hyd pump was not the problem.

How long since hyd filter was changed & hyd oil sump screen(key 30) checked/cleaned? During time trans oil is drained to check screen would be a good time to check hyd filter relief valve(keys 18-20) to be sure valve isn't stuck open.

What type valve control frt end loader? If FEL control valve is independent how is it attached to tractor hyd system? Has hyd function been checked with pto control lever in both positions(on/off) 7 hyd hi-lo in both speeds?

Betting rockshaft valve but without real diagnostics thats just a "gut" response. We used to joke that you were not diagnosing a utility tractor hydraulic system if you didn't have the hood off. (That's what you need to do to check lube pressure)

Replaced hydraulic filter and cleaned pickup screen and new oil, after using for a hour it started acting up, kept using it for 15 more minutes and lost everything, steering, loader and 3 point.

I'll ask again ""what type hyd valve controls loader""?

With engine running.3 pt hitch raised look in open hyd filler hole behind seat for moving oil which would indicate leaking R/S control valve seals.

What did you find? Was there a lot of material on the screen? Was there fines in the filter housing? Know what you found, clean or dirty, can provides clues.

Are the oil cooler fins full of oily mud ?
Do you know the difference between closed center and open center ?

Yes, this is a copy of the 2020 post, the 2950 is the same as the old 2020's...

You are entering the the world of the Dubuque hydraulic system..The issue is most likely in the middle of the transmission,, the trans/charge oil area..there is a leak in that area and as the oil warms up you are loosing the charge oil,,worn trans pump cracked oil line, worn o-rings...all of these things can contribute to loss of charge oil. Get a schematic of the system and study it like a road map..it will help you begin to search out the issue. Keep in mind that the front pump needs to be fed a constant flow of charge oil..when you loose your pressure remove the charge oil line at the front pump and head it into a bucket,,my guess is the oil going to the bucket will not fill your coffee cup.

The 50 and 55 are a wee bit better than the 20,30 and 40 series .
Depends if the tractor was always properly serviced . Or only seen the shop when it was completely broke loo
