Have a '69 syncro 4020 and i think i have a leak in the rockshaft control valve or rockshaft housing. Any ideas where to start? what components in the rockshaft control valve or housing are known to leak? I have read on here some folks take a plug out of the back and can see oil leaking inside when the 3pt is up and down-any ideas what might cause that internal leak-what are common sources of internal leaks?

Also, I need to replace the front pump, what is the best way to take it out, from above or from below?

Thanks
Hb

What is wrong with your tractor's hyd pump? If it has an oil leak it could be a plastic drain line for seal seepage not hyd pump. Easiest method to R&R pump is from the bottom.

Keep in mind many hyd pumps have been R&R only to determine replaced pump was not the hyd problem.

Console 4020's and that family have lose of hydraulic issues when the clutch is down, and the primary trouble spots are the PTO operating valve and the SCV's,,these separate them from the early models that don't suffer from that issue as much..Isolating componates is one way of trouble shooting,,and feeling for hot spots..
