Trying to remove a rear wheel on a 50 G. Previous owner saw fit to paint the axles yellow when they painted the tractor several years ago and now it won't budge. I have a heavy duty puller made just for removing them but it still won't move. Tried hammering it also with the puller but no luck. I saw in the Green Magazine where the gentleman used 2 jacks between the axle housing and the wheel but the jacks I have won't work in the horizontal position. Outside of finding someone with a torch not sure what to try next. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks Tom in Mn.
 
Your jacks....if you're using hydraulic bottle jacks, they will work side ways if you have the handle down

I'd take a wire wheel on a grinder and knock all the paint off your axles before you even try to move the wheels

Thank you Brandon! Did not know the trick of positioning the jacks with handles down. Several others didn't know either. I'll try that and hopefully it pops loose. Again thanks. Tom
 
Get some square stock, Make some wedges to tap into the taper hub after you get the clamp off. soak in PB blaster or the like and while it's soaking, remove the paint. No use using just brute force and breaking a hub or an axel housing.
 
Rusty thanks for the suggestion but we've tried all of that if fact I think that I should have bought stock in the company that owns PB Blaster. LOL
 
If you have a shop crane, you can hang a heavy battering ram on it and bump it from the outside just to get it to move. Once it moves, a puller should get it off.
 
Does your rear wheels have the removable hubs? If so, I have unbolted them from the cast center and slide the wheel as far back as possible then use long all thread through the bolt holes and make a plate to go over the axle. Use lots of pb blaster and tighten the bolts evenly and they will eventually move. It’s still a slow process but your not beating on them with a chance of busting something.
