Which and how many dummy plugs for JD 60

I have a John Deere 60 that I inherited. I recently picked up a used 801 3-point for it, but my rock shafts aren't turning. After some research, mainly here, I realized that I need the plugs to replace the hydraulic outlets. I haven't seen any that have the additional hookup on the side, however, so my question is, do I need two of them or three, and which part numbers?

I should add that I'm not 100% sure that's the issue. The rockshafts are near the top of their movement I believe. I can turn them down a bit with a big pipe wrench, but there is almost spring-like resistance, and they come right back up. The attached pic shows the setup. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Sorry, pic didn't take before.

First of all at the very least you need an operators manual (OM-R2016R) as the basic hydraulic functions are explained there. You need two dummy plugs as stated previously and the metering screw on the left side of the housing turned out two full turns. That connector coming out the side looks farmerized but could be used for one house cylinder operation as it is coming out the bottom port location (this is NOT the return port), totally does not need to be there when the other ports have hose connections in them.

If you ever plan on connecting to a two-hose cylinder, then you do not need "[i:654c4848f0]dummy[/i:654c4848f0]" plugs. This is how your tractor is currently configured.

If you ever plan on connecting to a one-hose cylinder, then you do not need "[i:654c4848f0]dummy[/i:654c4848f0]" plugs. With the current configuration, you can either connect to the bottom oil coupling or the "[i:654c4848f0]plumbed[/i:654c4848f0]" oil coupling on the side of the POWR-TROL.

If you [b:654c4848f0][i:654c4848f0]never[/i:654c4848f0][/b:654c4848f0] plan on connecting to a hydraulic cylinder, then you do not need "[i:654c4848f0]dummy[/i:654c4848f0]" plugs. This is how your tractor is currently configured.

Take a look at the PWER-TROL VALVE HOUSING diagram below.

Note the plug (Key 1) Part No. [b:654c4848f0]AA 4981 R[/b:654c4848f0].

Your tractor was originally equipped with two plugs.

If you decide to [b:654c4848f0][i:654c4848f0]never[/i:654c4848f0][/b:654c4848f0] connect to a hydraulic cylinder, then you might consider the configuration below.

Hope this helps.

Consider what you want to do now and in the future. If you feel you just want to use the 3 point, get the right plug. If you think you might want to use 3 point or remote hydraulics, consider getting one of the adjustable plugs. Very handy

Thanks for all the help. I have an operator's manual, and it goes over how to remove the dummy plugs to add remotes, but it doesn't say that it kills the rockshaft (that I saw) nor explain how it all works, which was the source of my confusion. The explanations here make much more sense.

I don't think I have any plans to use it with anything that has a remote cylinder,or at least I can't think of anything that I would. I mainly want to mount a 2-row cultivator I have on it for my sweet corn, maybe a small bushhog that I have. I have other tractors for everything else.

Thank you for the mention that New Paris Tractor has the plugs. That's where I got my hitch from. I wish I'd known that I needed the plugs and I would have ordered them and saved the shipping. I'm going to check our local dealer tomorrow and if they don't have them, call New Paris.
