Quickie 45 loader cylinder repair

Thanks to all that gave tips on the 45 cylinder questions I had. You guys really had me convinced just to buy the kit and rebuild properly except that I already had the shaft seal and O ring on hand, so I figured why not try it and if not, I can take it back apart.

So I put a new shaft seal and O ring on, and they seem to be sealed well, with no leaks after about an hour of use. We'll see if it holds, but definitely much better then it was, pouring out oil before!

Just popped the hoses, pins, and the end cap off. The pins were plenty tight in the yokes and rod

Old seals were shot, one would even pop out of it's bore when using

I need to put the grill back on but had to try it. Using the tractor as a self propelled wheel barrow to get piles of dead grass out of the yard

Not a bit of oil at the end of either rod after an hour. The very end of the rod has some pitting but it's good otherwise

My front tires and rims, replaced my originals when they stopped holding air. Had them on hand so the price was right! Wish I had powersteering for sure

Thanks all!

I knew you could do it, good job. I see you found a four spoke steering wheel. My 60 loader tractor does not have PS either but I will just live with that. Just finished putting PS on my high seat 60 std, that's a whole other story as I had to tear into it again after the initial test run to fix a leak from the steel pipe going to the top of the pump.

Thanks Dan,

I'd considered adding PS. Back when I had a job...

The aftermarket ones are too hack jobby. The factory one takes a LOT of parts, and mine is early enough I'd have to swap the radiator too.

So armstrong steering it is! The four spoke feels like it's easier but it could also be in my head...

Brandon,

One question, did you buy the complete seal kit for the 45 loader or were you able to just purchase the parts you needed like that seal in the end?

Dan

I bought the parts individually. The shaft seals came from Amazon, at $8.50 per. I cross referenced them to a regular seal number (SKF 12379) . The shaft O rings from a hardware store. If anything else was wrong I would have been ahead to get the kit. The kit is about $100 if you do both sides at

I could have probably got them thru Deere but the dealership is a 40 minute drive one way it's hard to get up there
