Scared to ask; 2510

Today after some mowing, I drove the 2510 up by the barn, cleaned it off with air while it cooled down. Got back on to drive it in the barn. Stepped on the clutch, started to shift into 1st, and the tractor starts moving forward, clutch still pushed down and before the shifter is fully in first. Get it back in neutral, try again, it does it again. This time I get it all the way into first, drive it the barn, it doesn't want to stop when I push in the clutch (I know, a real genius am I) , brake hard, get it out of gear, shut it down. Dark fluid (oil or dirty hydraulic fluid) was leaking from around the plate just forward of the mid pto. Hyd fluid and oil levels are ok , about the same as before mowing. I'll take another look tomorrow, just want to know if anyone has an idea about this. I've had the tractor for maybe 500 hrs, haven't ever messed with the clutch mechanisms.

First thing check the bolt in the clutch pedal where you adjust the free travel to make sure it is not loose and letting the pedal move and not the clutch shaft. Most likely it is not that but start there. If that is good remove the bottom clutch cover and get a light and look for something that is not right. Most likely you are going to end up splitting the tractor. Tom

I agree with Tom that a visual inspection with bottom cover removed is needed. My guess is a pressure plate operating bolt has broken requiring a tractor split.

What a coincidence. Same thing happened to my Oliver 1550 when I got done raking hay yesterday. I have more pedal now than I had. I'm going on the assumption that I broke a finger in the pressure plate. Same thing happened to my 1600 a few years back and that's what it was.

My vote is a broken clutch bolt. Looking into the inspection cover will tell if it is this, there are 3 clutch bolts..

I think I would do as these men suggest. I had this happen once, and it was a piece of the clutch disc had broken off and fell between the disc and pressure plate.
