456 SS baler

Last summer at the end of haying the
belts started to want to not start on my
456 SS baler. This baler is 20 plus years
old I would guess. I have had it for
three. I adjusted the take up arm
compression spring and seems to be
working well. There isn't much more to
adjust so do the belts need to be
replaced next. They are in decent shape,
but do have one or more splices in all of
them. Do I need to bite the bullet and
just get new belts? Tx Jim what say you?

You need to have your belts resized. Your dealer has the length of what each belt should be when new. Cut yours to length and back off your adjustments and you will be ready to go again. I had a 335 and we baled thousands of bales with the original belts. Had a good many splices and were resized twice before we put new ones on. Tom

I agree with Tom to check belt lengths. Correct lengths are 460'' & 465''.I also suggest to check condition of the rubber on the upper & lower drive rollers

If they all have splices in them anyway, can't you just cut one end off and put a new lacing on them so they're shorter?
