148 loader install on late 4020

I can find lots of info on plumbing a loader on an early 4020 but not much for a late model.I am looking for a place to tap into the pressure side of a 1971 4020 to feed a joystick valve on a 148 loader. The side console tractors don't have the fitting on the right side in front of the brake to replace with a tee and gain pressure. Some say there is a plug on the top of the scv that provides pressure but mine doesn't have it. Some say to tee into main pressure line but Deere says this may starve steering valve. No one at the dealer familiar enough with these older machines to help me. I have installed a ported filter cover to dump return oil. Any ideas? Thanks.

Been covered here many times. There is a power beyond block that bolts on the back of the remote quick coupler valve block. IIRC you can even find them on ebay. Others will likely answer and hopefully have a picture saved on this.

I have seen the posts about the power beyond block but was told by Deere they are no longer available. Have not been able to find one on ebay but maybe I'm looking for the wrong thing.

Tee a line to the hyraulic hose that fits the rockshaft under the platform deck for pressure and tee the return to rockshaft return line or to the filter cover.
That is exactly how a 500C backhoe is plumbed and those where made at same time as late 4020s (or later).
What you have found will work, but is a bad idea: If you put the power beyond block; you cannot put your rockshaft covers back.

I do not know for sure ? But those may be the ones posted about. Hope some come along who have done it.
Wish the archives was easy to search.

Bill, The PB (Power Beyond) block used for 30, 40, 50, and 55 series works on your late 4020 as it is the same as late 20 series. This is the best and easiest way to connect loader as it gives you both pressure and return ports to connect loader valve to. No need for ported filter cover as return port on PB block goes to same circuit / filter return. Block will move SCV to rear and requires a short extension on control rod. Last one I got for a 4000 I got from Deere but see they are now available aftermarket for much less. My coworker bought one this spring for his planter tractor on line / aftermarket. It was fine. I agree with WTW that PBY block is the method I'd utilize to attach hyd's for a FEL on late model 4020/3020.

Easiest only if you do not like your rockshaft covers.

I appreciate the replies and ideas. I went with the power beyond block and have it installed. My new question concerns the o-ring fittings sent with the block - I cannot get the pressure side to seal. Have tried several different fittings and everyone has leaked. I am basically installing the fitting finger tight then tightening the top nut to compress the o-ring but can't stop the leak. Am I missing something? Thanks.

It was not the fitting that was leaking. The block itself was warped. Bought it used from a guy locally so no warranty. Set it up in the mill to shave it , cut a new o-ring, and put it all back together and problem solved. Thanks again.
