MT dies after getting hot

My MT starts and runs great until it gets hot. Then it seems to just die like you turned the switch off. It will always restart and run another 20-30 seconds before dying again.

Any ideas? I'm thinking possibly the coil but I wanted to ask before throwing parts at it. Thanks for the help.

Hang a timing light on it and watch the
flash when it dies. No flash =
electrical. Still flashing as she dies =
fuel problems.

Most likely the condenser if electrical
followed by poor fuse connection.

Thanks M-Man. I don't own a timing light, but I could pick one up next time I go to town.

Not to sound ignorant, but I've never used one before. Would you mind explaining how this would point to the electrical side? Once the tractor died, wouldn't it quit firing?

Lol! Wife won't come near my tractors.

I reread the post again and I follow now that it will still be flashing AS it dies, sorry.

Any decent brands of condensers? I have read that it's a 50/50 gamble to get a new one that works.

Condensers are pretty cheap so I would
just throw one on it. I get the Echelon
from Napa. Saves me an hour trip to the
dealership and work fine. Napa has two
grades of Condensers so ask for the
better one.

Hit the flea market, pawn shop or harbor
freight for a cheap light.

We use a spark plug tester that go's in the wire and on the plug It flashes as it has spark an don't if nothing and can be used for lots of motors.

If its NOT a lack of fuel problem ??? and since a condensor is so much cheaper then a coil, I agree with the other fine gents Id try a
condensor FIRST. The other culprit is a coil if nothing else works. Insure the points aren't badly burned pitted or carbon covered as that
can cause problems, maybe lightly clean/buff/polish them and try it. An Ignition switch or fuse or connection that has become loose resistive
and carboned might be another potential problem, check all those also. See if it helps if you hot wire the coil to by pass any faulty switch
or fuse or connection problems, maybe that's it and not the condensor ???
