JD 2150 Mechanical Front Wheel Drive Solenoid

Hey Everyone,
(2150 John Deere 4 WD) I am desperately in need of help. I replaced my old MFWD solenoid with a brand new one from John Deere. I get power all the way to the solenoid but nothing after that. I even took the solenoid back off the tractor and hooked it straight to a 12 volt and still nothing. Did I just get a bad one straight out of the box or is it maybe something else? I triple checked the engage switch and all wires. All is good per the tech manual.
I called the service department at John Deere today and they really don't have a clue. The guy I spoke too said just swap it out for another one. I plan on doing that but I am still unsure what two connectors to use and is the solenoid suppose to click or something when connected to a battery? Thanks so much!

With it on the tractor and 12 volts going to the solenoid, there should be magnetism on the end of the stem the solenoid sits on. This will tell you that the solenoid is working. A small screwdriver or light steel wire should stick to the stem. The MFWD are spring engaged and hydraulic/electrically disengaged, so you should have power at the solenoid key on MFWD switch off. Sounds like you just replaced the solenoid, how do you know if the valve itself isn't stuck? What is the tractor doing or not doing?

The tractor is stuck in 4 wheel drive at the moment. I have a Technical Manual for this tractor and tried getting a magnetism of some sort from the solenoid and got nothing. I used the multimeter and the two wires connected(neg and pos) were reading 12 plus volts.

Run a power and ground to the solenoid and see if it disengages, if still engaged maybe the are seals bad and needs to be rebuilt.

The new solenoid from JD is a sealed unit. It don't come aplike the old ones did. I think it's a new design. I have tried hooking it up straight to the battery. Still not engaging.

IIRC, a similar issue has come up on here before.

How many terminals on the new solenoid?

If 3, two are used, and come from the coil and one is a ground for the metal parts of the solenoid and can be ignored in this application.

A photo would help, and show how you have it connected.

On the other hand, it sure wouldn't be the first time a part has been "bad" right out of the box.

Can you check with an Ohmmeter, one terminal likely will show continuity to the unpainted metal parts, and not to the other two terminals and can be ignored, and the remaining two terminals will show perhaps 50 to 80 Ohms between them and are the ones you want to connect the power and ground wires to.

(quoted from post at 07:52:49 06/17/20) Ok just checked and got NO ohms!

Just to be clear, NO Ohms = shorted, "open" = infinite Ohms.

What's the Vickers number on the coil, GOOGLE might be able to find some details on it... terminal identification, Coil Ohms, etc..

OK So I just came back from John Deere after trading the old solenoid. The fellow at the counter said the old solenoid in that condition should have never left the store. I installed the new one he gave me and "It WORKS". Yee-Haw. Thanks to all who helped. You all are greatly appreciated.
