John Deere 720 Camshaft

I'm overhauling my 58' 720 gas and while apart I got a fresh torque grind on my camshaft and tappets resurfaced on a good core stock I had. I have the block, rods and everything out of it still besides the crankshaft. Any advice on swapping the cam with the crankshaft in place? flywheel is off and out of the way, and all the first reduction stuff will be off. Haven't been able to come up with a good way to get the flywheel side bearing off to let the cam slide off the gear. Governor is also off. thank you

If that bearing is like the model A & 60 and of the same size ? that is a Timken type I get them off by cutting the cage and removing the rollers. Then I use an automotive puller designed to remove power steering pump pulleys and alt. bearings made by KD. It will catch on the end lip of the bearing so I can pull them off. But this does ruin the bearing. The ones I have done a bad bearing is why I was there anyhow.

Thank you, do you happen to have a part number of your KD tool kit? I'm going to replace both bearings just because so I don't mind destroying them to get it apart.

They are the same as the late G's. Cup is Timken # 09195 and cone is Timken # 09067. Same bearing on both sides.

Don't know if that puller will fit onto those ? But it worked slick on the ones in model A & 60.

They are the same numbers also. I have heated them up and then drove them off with a chisel from the top.

Any advice on installing the new inner race on the cam once its back bolted to the gear? I ordered a KD puller kit, may attempt it this weekend.

On our pulling tractors where we might change out a cam more often than normal, I sand the end of the cam down so the race will slide on without a lot of force. Just roll the cam back and forth on your knees while wrapping some sand paper on the shaft. Doesn't take to long to get it to slide on.

Got the cam out and the tool that was recommended work perfect. Was a little but of a chore but it will be worth it. Any advice on getting the new inner race on the gear side on?
