Deere 4020 SR with Elwood front axle

There is an unusual 4020 for sale. I have seen them with Elwood on PS, but rarely on SR tractors. There was a 4010 like it a while back, but without as many pictures. It would have been nice to get some more pictures of the setup.

It is probably worth the trip if you live in Illinois!

I would like to see how they got the source for the transfer case,,that was the issue I had when I made my 60 4X4.

There are about 30 pictures and 3 videos on auctiontime. Looks to me like the transfer case is hooked to the front PTO area?????

That is the tricky part,,getting the power out of the transmission case, then syncing it to the wheel speed

(quoted from post at 13:32:15 06/14/20) Still no good

the posted link works just fine. your interface device to the internet would appear to be the proximal issue.

It was even a loader tractor as that bracket on the front was for a 46A loader. Years ago I bought a hyd aftermarket 4wd setup for a 3020-4020 at an auction for next to nothing. It had a shifter like a powershift tractor and a cable that went to a valve. I bought it because the mounting and center section were factory Deere. Just bought two knees, spindles and hubs and had a regular front end. Scrapped the rest when we moved. Talked about just mounting it on a 4020 but did not have all the part and it needed tires. Tom

Interesting. I have am elwood/emco MFWD set up for 4840. It has a transfer case that bolts on to of tranny and drops down. Never used it just setting on the shelf if anyone has a use for it,

There's been pictures on this forum before of 4020's with ELWOOD FWA. I thought the driveshaft ran down
the right side of the tractor. Years ago, late 1970's/early 1980's I talked to THE engineer at Elwood
about their FWA system for the Deere tractors. He said the power was tapped from the top of the
transmission via duplex roller chain, over to the side, then down.
They had their hands full making axles for FARMALL and dealers and farmers that ordered axles to
install themselves.

I store the pictures for "historical" purposes.
It is very interesting that they got the rear PTO still working and the front axle drive trough the front PTO.

Tractor was sold today for only $6850.

I cannot understand why people would put so much money in a 4000 Powershift that is quite the "could care less tractor of no special interest" and cannot see the value and interest for future generation of such a special modified tractor.

I am very sure that 20 years from now, our kids would think the 4020 MFWD is special, and will try to find the seat covers for the 4000...

I'm glad to hear that, because I figure in 20 years from now my kids will say "You remember all that farm crap Dad used to have out there in that red building..." And the reply: "Who?" :(
