2510 engine swap-question

I plan on taking the tired little 202 diesel engine out of my 2510 and would like to know if anyone has swapped in a 4276 non turbo engine and if so please tell me what was involved to make it successful. My 2510 is a 1968 model WF. I don't want to hot-rod it, just want more power.
I have first chance to acquire a nice running 4276 from a 2630 that may be parted out. This engine has 2500 or so hours on it.

It will fit in nicely..

If your tractor has dual SCV boxes the second / bottom valve will come in contact with engine exhaust
manifold. The long stroke 276 engine is about 3/4" taller than the 202,219 and 239 short stroke engines.
If your tractor has just one SCV not a concern. You will have to grind clearance groove in shallow part
of oil pan for #4 connecting rod bolt as it will contact oil pan. Will take different water pump and
thermostat manifold than what the 202 has. Bottom corner of oil cooler water fitting has to be ground off
to clear frame rail. Last thing one frame rail at bottom rear corner has to be ground for block clearance
Other than these things everything else will swap without modification I have done these swaps and the
276 will make a very impressive difference over the 202. Whip the pants right off a 3020! Good luck. DW

I am asking why would I not keep the oil pan that is on the 276. And the water pump too. Are you saying they won't fit on my tractor? What about the front balancer/pulley and the drive shaft to the hydraulic pump and the bracket for the pump to bolt on to?

The original oil pan is part of the tractor chassis structure and is very important because of the
limited frame to engine mounting surface /strength along with block strength. Original pan is made
very heavy and bolts to the clutch housing circle for support. I am currently installing a 276T in a
2520, same / original pan held a gallon less oil. New engine held more oil. I wanted the same for the
bigger engine. I found a oil pan from a 23,25, or 2755 gave me an extra gallon of oil over original
pan, bolted up to engine and clutch housing circle and is structural in design. Hard to find and did
not come cheap! I would not recommend not using a structural oil pan. If your 276 pan is structural /
Cast iron and bolts to clutch housing your good to go! The water pump is different on the short stroke
202 because there is no water port for engine oil cooler water line to connect to. You may be lucky if
the water pump on the 276 has same fan center line to crankshaft??. There is allot of different water
pumps with different center line mountings, don't know which one you got?? These engines do not use
pulley harmonic balancer. Just a pulley. The pulley's can be swapped and original pump coupler can be
reused. Or if you want you can update with newer style pump drive but drive shaft is pricey! DW

I really appreciate the good info you have sent. You have saved me lots of time and trouble. I can be better prepared with this info. Things you run into doing this is unknown, and it drags the project down, but having experience with this and sharing your experiences with others is amazing. This fall is when I plan on being home long enough to complete this repower project. I will spend this time getting prepared.
