have pedestal apart--one vane is scored on its facing--is it reuseable
or should it be replaced? rebuilding because of severe lower leak--operated ok otherwise

Steering vane #F1696R that holds vane seal has a slight groove
on the flat side--should I reuse or replace?

My JD 730 is leaking at the pedestal. Will tear it apart this summer. I know you are not done, but how difficult of a repair is it? How much time do you have in the rebuild getting it torn down? Good luck.

From my experience, you'll regret not replacing it while you have your hands on it.

wheathead,

I believe this is the slight grove you are seeing. That is caused by hitting the stop peg seen in second photo many times over the last 65 years. I do not see how that would affect the operation of the unit, as Mike M said, replace all rubber seals with backing washers where needed. Seeing those vane seals makes my fingers hurt..........again.

Did my 60 this last winter due to a leak from the bottom. Took about 2 evenings from start to finish. Getting everything clean and the new vane seals onto the vane pistons are the worst. I soaked mine in 30WT and heated them up. I did it by myself but 2 people would be much easier.
