Probably 15 years ago I inquired at the John Deere dealer about outer tie rod end for my 430 U. They were $85 each. Since my tractor is a worker not a shower I made new tie rods from some jeep ones I had around, found out the tapered ends were the same size. I think the inner tie rod ends are the same for various configurations, S,W U etc but outer ones are different. You can find inner tie rod end really cheap. I use a loader on my tractor so the heavier jeep tie rods have worked good. I assume 40 is similar
