Add on power steering

Back in the 1960's there was a compact, round, red PS unit that fit on the steering shaft. It was powered by an automotive pump and worked with "one finger". Anyone know what these were and if there are any still around? Thanx!

I started working this D back in 1954 and it had one on it. It the addon was sold by Sears & Roebuck the shaft was cut and unit added about in the picture where my right knee is. I thought it was made by Sharylnn but I might be wrong on that. The D was replaced in 1957 by a new 720 after a fire the fall before while picking corn.

There were two brands, Behlen and Charlynn. I personally like the charlynn unit better as it is smaller, they still make them just an Eaton brand now.

David G, I went and checked old Sears catalog, didn't have the farm one but the 1956 sale catalog list them in the index. I also bought a new 22 rifle from this very sale catalog.

I do not have the Sears catalog but I do have a rifle that I ordered in the early sixties from Sears. Think it cost more like $19-21 IIRC.

Sorry, just had to jump in here. Google says this is a J.C. Higgins model made between 1941-1961. Have not shot it in years.

Thank you all! That's the item for sure. I'll have to see if the money tree down by the crick has bloomed yet. That rifle reminded me. . .a guy I knew took a Higgins sawed off .410 for a $100.00 debt. He was going to hunt pheasant with it. Not the best choice perhaps. In addition, the bore where it was sawed off was not concentric with the barrel. I suggested we pattern our shotguns. We did and he suggested I throw his in the river. Of course now the real wood walnut stock would be worth a lot.
