my jd 4030 sump plug is stuck. Can't get it out. The one holding the suction screen. It uses 1/2" square drive. i used a good 1/2" impact plus a pipe wrench and would not budge plug. Been spraying wd-40 and PB blaster for two weeks. HELP

(quoted from post at 15:52:32 05/20/20) Smack it real strong with a big hammer, it will come out easy.

How about if I use a short 1/2" extension in the drive hole and pound on that? Or should I risk a heavy rap or two to the plug itself? Bill

Just hit the plug squarely with a 2 or 3 pound hammer. Don't over think it. You want the shock around the edge of the plug, where the threads are.

Scott and Tim, You are both right. Get a bigger hammer is always the right answer. I used a three pound hammer around the edges of the sump screen plug. I tried not to think it too much. Then I applied my 1/2" impact wrench. Before it just pounded as long as I pulled the trigger. This time, the plug came loose right off. I expect it would have come loose by hand with a breaker bar after the "bigger hammer". I had already drained the hydraulic oil so only a small amount came out. The screen was a little stubborn but when I pulled it out, it had a few red color small bits on the far end and was generally clean looking. I will clean the screen really well and refill oil. I hope I have hydraulic power but if not, at least I know it is not the sump screen. THANKS FOR THE HELP. I AM RETIRED.
