Several 1010 Questions

Hi all, I have three seperate questions regarding my 1010. Its a 61 gasser with a HA145G engine in it from either a combine or a power unit (not sure of the history).

1. I've got one of those cheap aluminum carburetors on it and I just want to double check that it won't hurt anything running with that. The correct carb is a TSX-809 but I'm running it with a TSX-580. I had to 3D print some linkage to get it to work, but it does run, I've just had issues getting the mix adjusted correctly. If anyone knows if this will work (or not) let me know. Just don't want to mess up anything in the long run. FYI the original TSX-809 carb won't stop flooding after 4 attempted rebuilds so I just got fed up and went with the 580.

2. Planning to convert to negative ground/alternator. I already have a one wire delco alternator from another purchase. From what I've read you just take the output wire off the generator, plug that into the alternator, and then swap 2 wires on the VR. Can anyone elaborate on that process if they've done it, particularly on "polarizing the coil"? I've seen that mentioned several times and am a bit confused on it.

3. I have purchased a DATCON electronic tachometer since the HA145 doesn't have a slot for the tach drive gear (which is why I need to convert to negative ground). The (very short) manual just says to connect a wire to the "signal source" (plus power) which I'm assuming is the coil, but since this tractor still uses points, will that work? I have very little understanding of this electronic tach but from what I've read it sounds like its basing it off how many times the engine fires per minute? Any advice on that appreciated.

Thanks in advance and sorry for the long post.

In answer to your three questions.

"1.The correct carb is a TSX-809 but I'm running it with a TSX-580. "

The engine you have now is much bigger then the original 1010 engine. I suspect the carb you are using now from the Ford has jets that are
better matched then the original 1010 carb.

2. Planning to convert to negative ground/alternator. Can anyone elaborate on that process if they've done it, particularly on "polarizing
the coil"? "

No such thing as polarizing the coil. Maybe what you heard was using the correct polarity for best output. That is easy. Positive power
to the positive terminal on the coil.

3. I have purchased a DATCON electronic tachometer since this tractor still uses points, will that work? " If it is a ignition-signal
driven tach for a four cylinder engine - it makes no difference if you have points or breakerless ignition. It works either way.
