John Deere B 190ci: Largest bore recommended for stock ri...

What is the largest bore that would be good for standard-sized rings? I have the block and pistons at the machine shop for measurements and am wanting to know what I should tell him given the measurement he tells me. He estimated at least .010 of wear but I can't find anyone with aftermarket .045 over pistons, so it's either new rings or sleeve the block back to STD size.

If I do end up going with sleeving how much larger should the bore be than the pistons? I heard JDs like to run loose compared to normal engines. It will be about $100 per cylinder plus rings so it seems to be less than buying aftermarket aluminum pistons.

Thanks

Is this .010 the ring gap in the bore or the side clearest of piston and bore. Sleeveing a block is a lot of work to do and sounds cheap at 100 a hole. As for hearing that the deeres need to run loose as for pistons in bore is with running aulm pistons in them so when they warm up or get hot the pistons don't freeze up in the bore. I would ask on the pulling site an I'm sure some of the guys on here will way in on were to get stock pistons from 45 to 125 over that they have and are still good. I would only go as big as a bore you need to to clean them up to fit the new pistons stock ones or alum ones. I think on the alum ones the side clearness was.08 to .010. There was a place that had all sort of stuff I believe it was called Hendrich repair.

On the big bore G's we will go 20 to 25 thousands side clearance on the pistons. I believe the rule is .003 per inch of piston. $100 a hole to sleeve it seems awful cheap considering what sleeves cost and double boring them.

I had the block for my 1950 B model bored .125? over
23 years ago and put in new aluminum pistons.
Still running, no problems.

Running gasoline only or kerosene ? If gasoline only, install a set of 45 over model 50 LP pistons. They will wake the old girl up.
