Wiring a JD slant dash A

Started rewiring a '41 slant dash A and realized I needed a little (or maybe a lot of) guidance. The current wiring is a mess so unfortunately that can't be used as a pattern. Brillman did provide some decent instructions but when I tried to transfer them to a diagram there were a few things that didn't line up for me. For reference I bought this harness (https://brillman.com/product/john-deere-serial-583999-complete-wire-harness-1-wire-alternator/) and this light switch per their suggestion (https://brillman.com/product/2-position-pushpull-switch-3-8-32-mounting-threads/).

The tractor has been converted to 12V negative ground with a one wire alternator. For that configuration how does this diagram look? I also have a spare wire (#40) from the kit that's just labeled as "light switch" but I don't know what it connects the light switch to, or if it's even needed for my setup. My other concerns are the hookups to the amp meter. I don't really like dealing with electricity so I'm hoping to get this right the first time instead of a trial-and-error kind of thing.

Both the harness and light switch are correct for your tractor.

Take a look at the photo below of the ammeter on ?Easy? our 46 slant dash Model A.

Note the wire from the starter switch is connected to the POSITIVE post on the ammeter.

Note the wire to the one wire alternator is connected to the NEGATIVE post on the ammeter.

Note the wire to the ammeter is connected to the POSITIVE post on the ammeter.

That was helpful, thank you. I was able to get everything wired up, but before attaching the battery (I hate dealing with electricity) I used a mutimeter and was surprised that basically everything had connectivity to everything else. Does that seem normal? Seems like that'd cause a short once the batter was connected.
 
Replying to my own comment, no, it wasn't normal. I had a short somewhere in the ammeter wiring. I think I cranked down too hard on the nuts causing a short. I really feel like I should be adding a fuse someplace in the mix, just for a little added insurance. Thoughts?
