John Deere 3020 Light Switch Help

All,

Working my way to end of list on my new project! Awh, who am I kidding, won t never be an end!

I have my manuals etc. but in looking at my light switch, the resister is gone and looks to be in poor condition. Tractor is a 60280 serial number diesel syncro. Fuel gauge reads full constantly and no generator light. Probably all having to do with this switch. It is 24v and i have just replaced both batteries. Starts like a champ.

I can not find the 24V switch. All the switches i see on line, look to be for 12v and have only one BATT connector. What am I missing???

Your light switch has nothing to do with the fuel gauge or generator light. (You ARE talking about the "light switch", and not the "keyed ignition switch", right?

The (missing) resistor on the headlight switch is for "dim" headlamps.

It is a special/unique switch, with two separate /isolated circuits, DEERE part #AR28402, about $45 at you DEERE dealer, $22 and up for aftermarket reproductions on the 'net (if that's your "thing".)

The fuel gauge runs through the light switch on these as long as the wiring harness is original . The gauges and lights Run on the 12 volt circuit on the 24 volt tractors

HUH???

Fuel gauge is powered though the keyed "ignition switch" and power to it is cut off when the "ignition switch" is turned "OFF".

Fuel gauge, and GEN and oil lights are powered from the (+) ground side of the system.

I am talking about the light switch Bob. Just started my search on this issue and putting all the pieces together. The part number when i look at the back of the switch on the various sits don t look to me like it has 2 battery connections.

According to the genuine John Deere parts site, the 12 Volt switch is Part #AR28401, the 24 Volt diesel light switch is (as I posted) #AR28402.

I suspect some of the aftermarket sellers have their info and photos mixed up.

In the notes under the part numbers A = gasoline, B = LP gas, and C = diesel (which are 24 Volts in your serial number range).

I agree with Bob that ign switch powers fuel gauge on 24 volt system not light switch & resister is for headlamp operation. Actually lights & electrical accessories on 24 volt system operate from two 12 volt circuits. 1 circuit is + ground & 1 circuit is - ground.

Well that makes the most sense to me . I guess I
shouldn?t repeat stories I?ve been told without
verifying them first . The guy who told me that still
says that it goes through the light switch I haven?t
had time to look but I can?t see why it would go
through the light switch . I knew the lights and
gauges were on the 12 volt system didn?t know they
used a positive and negative circuit Though. I
converted to 12 Volts and although it doesn?t start
like it used up at least the batteries are always
charged
